How long have you been writing?

I have been writing now for about 3 years. It all started when the idea for Lockdown (the first book in the AM13 series) came to me – I’d read a lot of zombie horror novels, but the main characters all seemed to be extraordinary and very capable of surviving the nightmare surrounding them. I started to think ‘what about everybody else?’ – and that’s where the very ordinary, normal (and sometimes a little vacuous!) Leah came to life.

What was the most challenging part about writing Forgotten?

I wrote Lockdown for myself, then was lucky enough to get a publishing offer. Writing Forgotten was different because I knew that it was going to get published. It put much more pressure on me than before. After a few false starts, I decided to try a new writing style, and introduce 3 (very different) characters…
